±¬ÁÏÍøstudents adapt Greek play to reflect modern times

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Theater Arts program at ±¬ÁÏÍø presents the provocative Greek comedy, "Lysistrata," adapted by ±¬ÁÏÍøstudents. The student cast took the play, written in 411 B.C. by Aristophanes, and updated it to reflect today’s fast-paced social realities. The play is directed by Mark Collmer, part-time theater arts technician at PCC. Play contains adult themes and language. "Lysistrata is a leader of women who is tired of losing her children and lovers to war," said Michael Najjar, ±¬ÁÏÍøTheater Arts instructor. "She convinces all the women of her society to band together and abstain from relations until peace is declared." The performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 19-21. There will also be matinee showings at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 21 and Sunday, May 22. The shows will be held in the Little Theatre on the Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave. Tickets are $6 for general admission and $4 for students, staff and senior citizens.
