This course gives students an overview of employment laws, claims, and remedies. We will review areas including employment contracts, rights and obligations under some of the key employment laws, including the Civil Rights Act, ADA, FMLA/OFLA, and claims arising from wrongful termination, unlawful discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. We will also review administrative agency processes, including the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) and the U.S. Department of Labor Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Students will have an opportunity to analyze factual scenarios, review case law, and draft court pleadings and administrative responses to apply the principles and doctrines discussed in class.
